Resident Beth Lyons paints her flag creation.

On May 18, 2017, Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer, Indiana, held a spin-off on the popular wine-and-painting party fad.

The residents did a Cookies and Canvas party.

The event took place on the Thursday of National Nursing Home Week, held May 14-20, and incorporated the theme “The Spirit of America” in the artwork. Local artist Amanda Call taught the class as residents painted an eagle and flag picture.

“The residents really enjoyed this new activity and enjoyed some cookies while they painted,” said Jessica Bach, marketing director. “They all took their painting and hung it in their rooms. They were very proud to show visitors and associates the paintings they painted.”

Other National Nursing Home Week events this year included beach volleyball, outdoor bowling, a Mother’s Day tea, a magic show and an Elvis tribute artist.
