Whitton recovers from hip fracture at Rensselaer Care Center

Sandra Whitton came to Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer, Indiana, for rehabilitation on June 29, 2018, after she fractured her right hip in a fall.

The injury left Whitton weak and in need of moderate assistance with getting dressed. She also needed some assistance for walking, bed mobility, getting in and out of bed, standing balance, bathing and cognition...

On July 13, 2017, Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer, Indiana, hosted a rehab reunion.

Ten former rehab patients who had graduated within the previous six months attended and enjoyed a summer barbecue with hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue chicken, potato salad and coleslaw...

On Feb. 9, 2017, Vernon Odle came to Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer, Indiana, for help with mobility after having an above-the-knee amputation.

Odle needed total assistance for bathing, as well as extensive assistance with bed mobility and swallowing and moderate assistance with cognition, dressing, walking, standing and transferring from one surface to another....

The residents did a Cookies and Canvas party.

Muscle weakness brought Robert Cross to Rensselaer Care Center for rehabilitation after a bout with infection.

Cross needed assistance with walking, transferring from one surface to another (such as from the bed to a wheelchair), bathing and grooming. He had trouble balancing while standing as well....

Terry Severs, nurse at Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer, Indiana, read over the history of a resident who was somewhat agitated. Severs learned the resident used to own a dress shop, so she put together baby clothes, a tabletop closet system and a basket for the resident. The resident is now able to fold and hang items, which puts a smile on her face....

Rensselaer Care Center hosts Easter egg hunts for staff and community

Rensselaer Care Center in Rensselaer, Indiana, had two Easter egg hunts this year.

The facility celebrated Easter from April 10-14, 2017, starting with an egg hunt for associates on April 10. Eggs were hidden in the facility each day for the staff to find. Once an egg was found, the associate took it to Gloria McGowen, executive director, and she gave him or her a prize – from candy to lunch gift cards....

Rensselaer Care Center residents visit dirt racing track

On Aug. 6, eight residents and several associates from Rensselaer Care Center took a trip to Shadyhill Speedway, a local dirt racing track.

The track allowed the group free admission and a free meal of burgers, hot dogs, chips and soda. Dirt stock car racing is popular in the area, and residents enjoyed watching the old stock cars whizz around the track.
